Service update: photo clean-up and notification changes
Editorial team • March 29, 2026
GetWishlists has been growing steadily, and with growth comes responsibility — including keeping our servers fast and efficient. Today we're announcing two important updates to how the service works.
Automatic removal of photos from inactive wishlists
We've updated our Terms of Service to reflect a new storage policy: photos attached to wishlist items may be automatically removed after a period of inactivity. The rest of the wishlist — titles, descriptions, store links, reservations — is untouched. Only the photos are cleaned up.
Here's exactly when photos are removed:
Wishlists with an event date
If your wishlist has an event date set (a birthday, wedding, etc.), photos will be removed if both of the following are true:
- The event date has passed more than 30 days ago
- The wishlist has not been edited in the last 30 days
Wishlists without an event date
If no event date is set, photos will be removed if both of the following are true:
- The wishlist has not been updated for 90 days
- The account owner has not logged in for 90 days
This means as long as you're active — editing your list or simply logging into your account — your photos are safe. The clean-up only targets wishlists that are genuinely no longer in use.
Email notifications are now opt-in
Previously, email notifications were sent by default when someone reserved a gift on your wishlist. We've changed this: notifications are now turned off by default.
All reservations are still fully visible in your dashboard — just log in and you'll see who reserved what and when.
If you'd prefer to receive email alerts too, you can enable them any time in Account Settings → Email notifications.
